WHY MATARIKI?

We had been pondering a name for our motorhome for some time when Meg came up with the idea of calling it "Matariki". There were a number of reasons why we felt an affinity with this name, apart from my Kiwi heritage.

Every year in June, the Pleiades rise to the north-east and when they are visible just above the horizon at dawn it is considered Matariki, or Maori New Year. Because we were supposed to take delivery of the motorhome around that time, the name seemed appropriate.

Matariki is also about looking forward to the future, whilst remembering those who have gone before us, so this also seemed appropriate to us starting our new adventure.

Finally, Meg is a keen amateur astronomer and her favourite constellation is Pleiades!
