Roadkill Cafe
Catchy title? Well, I had to get your attention somehow!
Okay, let’s get it out there. I love food. I love shopping for, preparing, cooking and most of all eating food. Some may even say I’m obsessed with food, and I’m alright with that. There’s very little in the way of food that I won’t eat or at least try.
So, with the advent of life on the road, we had to think seriously about what we’d be eating every day, especially for longer trips because the freezer in Matariki isn’t big enough to carry more than a few days’ worth of frozen food. For me, this is the stuff of sleepless nights if I don’t know where the next meal is coming from.
While it’s early days for us yet as far as motorhome travel is concerned, we have some on-the-road favourites already. So I thought we could share a few of these.
I’m not going to attempt to catalogue all the comestibles we take with us; this is more about the food we prepare and cook ourselves, whether at home or on the road. We are great fans of “Nat’s What I Reckon” YouTube videos, in which Nat ridicules the use of “jar sauce”. NOTE: If you’re easily offended by bad language, don’t watch any of Nat’s videos. We’re very much of the same opinion as Nat, and would prefer to use fresh ingredients whenever we can to make our own meals.
It is also worth mentioning that we make an effort to support the local economies we travel through too, and have lunches at local eateries wherever possible. For example, on the way to Lake Moogerah, we stopped at the Overflow Estate 1895 Winery for a beautiful charcuterie plate lunch, washed down with local wines. By doing this, we’ve then had a hearty lunch and we don’t need to worry much about food for the rest of the day.
